On the southern side of the bay, before the town, there is the customs harbour open all the year round with a light at the head of the pier (no 41380). The Customs House is at the bottom of the harbour and the Harbour Master's Office is on the first floor of the building to the right of the port. Umag is easily recognized from the north by the large hotel building in the north part of the town. To its west, there is a high concrete warning light mark (no 41340) in the Paklena (Pegolata) shallows. Visitors approaching from the south or from the west will recognize the city by the building in the south part of the city.
The harbour is open to the south-west and you enter it between a red lighted (no 413 70) and a green unlighted conical buoy. To the north, next to the red buoy, there is a black and yellow sign on a rock with a down-pointing cone.
South winds do not make entering difficult but going out against the wind with a weak engine may cause minor problems. When entering, keep to a route of about 59°. Only after you pass the lighted black conical buoy in the inlet channel you should take the course towards the city breakwater or the marina.
Buoys and pier heads (nos 41360 - 41390 ) are well lighted to enable easy entering at night. The light positioned on the breakwater before the town is visible only after passing the buoy at the harbour mouth. It is absolutely necessary to follow the entering routes given because right to the west of the harbour there are many reefs on which almost every year some yacht grounds.
About half a sea mile south of the harbour, before the cement factory, there is a quay stretching to the north mainly for merchant ships. It has two big bollards. Although the landing place is privately owned, it offers a perfect shelter when weather conditions make the sailing unsafe and entrance to the harbour impossible.
The ACI marina with 550 berths is on the north side of the bay. You may enter from the south also.
